frankfort's own pride and joy, our hometown distillery making some of the best bourbon out there (hey, we're biased and we aren't afraid to brag!)
squeeze in a TOUR then come recharge your batteries with whiskey wednesday and our dinner specials, we're only 10 minutes away from the buffalo trace distillery. buffalo trace bourbon is the flagship brand for buffalo trace distillery. originally the liquid inside the bottle was ancient age bourbon but with the renaming of the distillery came a renaming of the bourbon. current ancient age bourbons are still very tasty but are a different product than what they were before 1999. buffalo trace's distillery is one of the oldest, most prolific distilleries in the country. this historic organization is littered with some of the biggest names in the industry; albert blanton, col. e.h. taylor, george t. stagg, schenley, van winkle; and on and on the list goes. the company has passed through the hands of several families eventually landing with george t. stagg. after his retirement the company was picked up by schenley and in the early 90's sazerac of new orleans fame bought and renamed it buffalo trace. sazerac, teaming with age international of japan, makes several brands of bourbon availble on the market today. buffalo trace bourbon in particular is a low rye bourbon aged on average 6 to 8 years but is not labeled with an age-statement and therefore may contain whiskey as young as 4 years old. this bourbon is great as a stand alone product or used in cocktails. |
tasting notes:
considered a dry styled bourbon by some, the bourbon has a definite corn presence enhanced by sweet spices, ripe fruits, honey, pepper and hints of oak, pears, honey, and tobacco. this brand is a great compliment to orange, lemon, cherry and dried cranberry fruits/juices. |
